Prayer Update
Dear friends & family,
I have been very busy
with many different things
and am learning to hand things off to the talented
people I work with. So you'll get a far more interesting
update this month from Rachel Floyd. Enjoy... If you are new to the
prayer team, you may want to read our previous prayer
updates at
www.bridgeofhopechurch.com/pray4us.html.
It has
been a few months since the prayer letter has been
updated. In a way, that is a good sign. We are keeping
very busy.
Here
are few of the highlights:
The Breaking Silence concert was a hit. We had over
80 youth at the event. 18 of them made a
first-time
commitment to follow Jesus. It was a great time
for all involved.
May
14, 06 @ the Unity Center featured our full rock
band, three youth baptisms and a record high
attendance!
On
May 14th we had the wonderful pleasure of
baptizing three members of our youth group,
Shattered. Since it was Mother’s Day, one of the teens
surprised her mother. I wish you could have seen the
look of joy on her face as she realized that her
daughter was going forward to be baptized. It is
incredible to see God working in the lives of the
teens. It brings a breath of renewed energy to our
ministry and our church.
Not that it is about numbers, but I think it is a sign
of health and vitality that the youth group continues to
grow each week. There were 31 teens at Shattered the
other night.
Some fun
things are happening recently at Bridge of Hope. As you
may know, we have been given a trailer to haul and store
all of our equipment when we launch at the Theatre. I am
happy to report that our trailer is now
beautifully painted with our logo.
Thank
you to Alvin Hepler for a wonderful job, well done. We
also have a new sign to place out front so that our
place of meeting is more visible and easy to find. We
were able to make good use of the new trailer when we
worshiped at the Unity Center a few weeks back.
We knew we were going to need more space for the
baptisms on Mother’s day, so it was decided to have the
gathering at the Unity Center rather than our usual
location. That was a good move as we had a record
high attendance of 51 that week.
As part of
our calling to reach the community and spread the hope
we have in Christ, we have scheduled what we call
Community Impact Events. We have done several
already. Two weeks ago we
took
a bunch of quarters, boxes of laundry detergent, fabric
softener and some snacks for the kids and we went to
local Laundromats. It was so fun to see the responses
that we got when we told people that we wanted to pay
for their laundry and give them soap and softener to
use. Some responded with skepticism, not sure they
believed that we would do that for them with no strings
attached. Once they realized we were not trying to sell
them anything and we weren’t going to stand and preach
at them while their laundry was washed, they were happy
to accept the gift. This weekend we are decorating a
float for the parade.
Later
that night, at the fireworks, we are going to walk
around and pass out some glow sticks and bracelets to
the crowd. Again, it is just an opportunity to demonstrate
God’s love, share our story and hopefully make some
connections. Whenever we do these kinds of things, we
end up getting such a blessing from it. I think we
receive more than we give!
Please
pray that God will touch the hearts of each person that
walks through our doors. Also pray that we will be
aware of, and in tune to, the needs of the people who
join us. It is our desire to be servants of Christ. To
be His hands at work in Waterloo.
