A Special
Christmas Letter
From the Van Wyk Home

Dear friends & family,

This Christmas we are still caught up with Thanksgiving. We can't help but rejoice over the support and love many of you have shown to us. As we have faced the challenges of moving, adding a baby girl to our family, and planting a new church, we have been greatly blessed by your support and prayers.  Some of you have watched our kids, some helped us move, and many of you are praying and supporting Bridge of Hope. We can't tell you how thankful we are for the love you have shown.

So, what's up with the family?
Elyssa is now 4 months old.  She is doing great.  She sleeps through the night most of the time and has done so since she was 8 weeks.  Her smiles and giggles are priceless and easily won.  As you can see, she is quite healthy and
happy.  She is learning to use her voice.  While she can scream, it is rare for her to do so.  She is helping us start BOH by smiling her way into people's hearts and letting us sleep far more than Ian did.

Zackary turned 2 years old in September and suddenly began overflowing with personality.  He loves to sing, but only if he can do the actions at the same time.  "Joy to the World" and "Every Move I Make" are his favorites and I guarantee he will make you smile.  He is also quite fond of buttons and navigates a kid's worship DVD like a pro.  He has also taken to potty training like a pro.  It's pretty exciting to have two kids out of diapers.  He is helping us start BOH by training to lead worship with great joy.

Ian entered a 4-year old preschool class this Fall and loves it.  He enjoys doing crafts, but still prefers sports.  As long as he has a ball, he is happy.  Football, baseball and golf are staples in his week.  Football is currently his favorite.  He plays on several (imaginary) teams as a quarterback, running-back, linebacker and kicker.  In baseball, he enjoys pounding balls right back at dad.  He has even been working on switch hitting (batting left handed).  In golf, he has had a great time going out to the driving range and is aching to get on a real course.  Ian is helping us plant the church by loving the other kids and helping dad with all kinds of jobs.

Stephanie is very busy with the kids (including Kevin). She manages to keep our house together: cooking, cleaning, paying bills, washing lots and lots of underwear, and shopping. She attends a women's ministry every Tuesday at Prairie Lakes Church and worships on Saturday nights (with the family) at Heartland Vineyard. If you're thinking all this church involvement is a little strange, know that these two ministries are feeding her so she can give more to BOH.  Steph is helping in some huge ways with starting BOH.  Every Sunday morning she has our 4-10 year olds in Kid Connection.  She prepares lesson materials for this active bunch of about 8 kids from several different resources to keep them focused and having fun. Wednesdays at 2PM she meets with other women from BOH for book discussion/Bible Study.  She even provides snacks on occasion for Sunday mornings. Keep in mind she had Elyssa in August and had surgery to remove cancer from her nose in September.  She is one incredible gal!

I, Kevin, have been busy as well.  I have learned to de-stress by rough-housing with the boys. Tickling, tackling, and tinkling pretty well define my time with Ian and Zack. (They do the tinkling while I often read them a story or just make one up.  I am sure many people have been quite amused to hear a straining child's voice from the next stall say "can you tell me a story, dad?")  I love this time away from the massive to do list which comes with church planting.  As far as BOH goes, I have been focused on raising funds, communicating to our prayer team, mobilizing and encouraging our launch team, experimenting with outreach, updating our website, and making Sunday mornings meaningful.  I've been very fortunate to have Armond Floyd join me in this endeavor.  He has helped immensely with outreach, music, youth, and just having fun.  We both enjoy meeting every Thursday with some other pastors to pray and meeting every Wednesday for an "Emerging Leaders Training" course at Orchard Hill Church.

It has been an amazing year of seeing God work and we thank you for standing behind us.

May God fill your heart and home with hope and joy this Christmas,

The Van Wyks
