Waterloo is diverse community; Hispanics, Bosnians, and Burmese are coming to our town… How does the church respond? The Stranger is a documentary about immigration and the Church. It’s worth seeing. www.thestrangerfilm.org
Our New Vision
We believe God is calling us to establish a community enrichment center from which we can help under-resourced families escape poverty and find hope in Jesus.
We’d like to provide car maintenance, daycare, support groups, financial coaching, education support, physical fitness opportunities, job training, and more. We just can’t do this out of the movie theater or on our own.
Please, consider how you could join us in serving those in need in Waterloo.

A New Season...
We are in a new season. Induced by changes in circumstances and simply God’s whispering to our hearts, it’s a new season for BOH. Three aspects come to mind…
A season of upheaval: A new season means change, and change is never comfortable. When was the last time you sat in a different spot at church? Why do you sit in the same spot? I would say it’s comfortable. Well, God is making our “pew” more and more uncomfortable. The uncertainty of moving to a land of which we do not know is certainly cause for upheaval. Pray for peace & direction.
A season of reflection: One of the core pieces of this time for me is understanding better who we (BOH) are. Most recently, the picture of broken vessels has captured my attention. We just replaced our family’s dishes thanks to extended family. Many of our old set had broken, most all of them had chips. We can deal with some chips, but what do you do with shattered bowls? We throw them out… but God repairs those “shattered bowls.” BOH is in the business of repairing shattered lives. Pray for God to heal broken lives and restore relationships.
A season of action: At times like this it is easy to focus inward, retreat to safety, and just maintain. Our leadership has made some key moves to focus us outward. This year we are funding 8 free Friday night meals so that BOH folks can bring friends and nurture relationships. The leadership has also chosen to shorten our service and help Ascension Lutheran serve lunch in downtown Waterloo on the 2nd, 4th, & 5th Sundays of the month; we are helping by befriending those who come, playing with kids, and communicating hope. Pray lives are changed.
