OUR STREET PASTOR (MISSIONARY)
Armond
Floyd is a missionary for Young
Community, a youth organization based in Wisconsin. He
is now on assignment with us to help with outreach,
youth, and music. Armond is a missionary which means
several individuals and organizations, including Bridge
of Hope, provide his financial support. He and his
family have taken a huge step of faith by moving to
Waterloo while still needing to raise support.
Armond is a national
speaker for Young Community in their ministry to teens.
His work takes him to schools, churches, teen events and
concerts, etc. As a missionary, Pastor Floyd has to
raise his own support from various like-minded
organizations that would be willing to promote positive
role modeling for today’s youth. Armond's work takes him
to cities all over the county & country as he speaks to
large groups of teens about making wise choices and
living clean lifestyles.
As you are aware,
preventing problems in teens is much easier than
repairing broken adults.
In our own community, this summer youth
have been active in some very destructive ways: a 52
year old lady was attacked and robbed while at a car
wash; another was attacked in her own front yard. City
leaders are concerned and looking for solutions (see the
WCF Courier, June 26, 2005).
The work Armond performs by speaking to teen groups is essential to
communities. By the age of 13, teens begin to test the
convictions of their parents. Having a public figure
like Armond to reinforce good morals goes a long way
toward helping teens consider their behavior and stay
out of trouble.
Young Community is a
501(c) 3 national teen ministry. They help thousands of
teens each year across the country to rebuild broken
lives, stay off drugs and alcohol, avoid tobacco, and
keep from wrecking their lives through bad choices.
On Sept. 4, 2005 James Sutton, Armond's mentor &
director with
Young Community, sent the following e-mail regarding
Armond...
Some
of you already know Armond Floyd. Armond and Rachel
have been with us since Sept., of 2003 here in Wisconsin.
Armond is uniquely gifted to work with young adults.
The past 2 years he has been reaching teens
throughout NE Wisconsin, as well as several other
states, where he goes to perform and speak. When
Armond walks into a room, everyone pays attention
because he is the size of an average NFL lineman.
When he speaks, you discover a heart just as big.
The following excerpt is from a note a teen gave
Armond after one of his mission trip performances.
Hey Armond,
This is --------- from---------- at ------
bible church i just wanted to say hey and let u
no that im ok and give u my cell phone # so
when i move we can still communicate . i'm
really gonna miss seeing you ! I feel i can
trust u so im gonna tell u about this and i know
u'll understand. sometimes when i feel that no
one cares, i cut myself. But i'm getting better
about it and i havent done it in 2 days as where
i used to do it 2 or 3 times a day. I think its
because of prayer because my friends and small
group leader are praying for me . but i'm scared
to tell anyone. well i WILL talk to u later!
Armond has had a significant ministry in this young
girl's life, as well as countless other kids.
Tomorrow morning, Armond is moving to Waterloo,
Iowa. We were asked by a church plant in Waterloo to
send Armond and Rachel on assignment for a few
years, so they loaded 2 mini-vans with 3 small
children and are heading out. We are excited about
the lives they will touch as they help Bridge of
Hope Church reach young adults.
